Past News: as seen through the savage lens of time

As Athens approaches Wild Rumpus time (Halloween in Athens= BEST NIGHT EVER!), CK, Brett and Lee of Slow Records Studios have been busy working on releasing a bunch of retardedly cool Athens music to the world. See their website www.slowrecords.com and find out what's new and hot in the Athens music scene. Lucky for us, Slow Records invited Kit to the Moon to be a part of their movement, this week releasing two songs we played live in the studio, multi-tracked and filmed simultaneously. It's a great idea and we are stoked to be a part of it. Check out Kite to the Moon's new track Cat Toy right here, right now, then head over to slowrecords.com and dig in- there's TONS more for K2M and many others. COOL!!!!!!!

The band was recently in the studio multi-tracking 2 songs with live video. The project is the brainchild of C.K. Koch of Slow Records in Athens. You might remember the legendary "barn parties" of the mid-2000's... well that space is now a creative hub showcasing some of Athens most special talent. We're real pleased to be a part of it. Check out what C.K. and Co. have produced so far at http://vimeo.com/slowrecords. The songs we recorded were "Cat Toy" and "Suck the Foam"... expect a release this summer as part of Slow Records big launch!

ALSO: We're cooking up a new event and we need your old boom box. Would you consider donating your old ghetto blaster to Kite to the Moon for an awesome project? We promise to take care of it. NO, it won't be returned but it will make someone very happy. It has to have a cd player that works. Email kitetothemoon@gmail.com to contribute---- THANK YOU!

We have reason to believe that Timi will again be joining forces with STS9's David Murphy and Co. to launch Pigs on the Wing again, this time at Sound Tribe Sector 9's re:generation at Horning's Hideout Festival in North Plains, OR June 23-26, 201. Stay tuned for news!

Here is a clip from Pigs on the Wing's performance at Georgia Theatre in 2009- enjoy!

Upcoming album release for "POUNCE"
Kite to the Moon's first album will be hitting stores and internet markets this fall- the band gave it the name "POUNCE" to characterize it's rowdy, springing musical attitude. The album contains 12 reach-out-and-grab-you tracks, recorded at Full Moon Studio in Watkinsville, GA by Jay Rodgers, mixed at The Bakery by Matt Yelton, and mastered by Rodney Mills and John Keane.

The songs are raunchy and sensitive, poetic and careless, playful and mean, stupid and brilliant, adolescent and wizened... These are funny contradictions, you know, but I guess it's because we're a band of seasoned players that have lived and been through the wringer, but somehow have managed to maintain a sense of humor through it all... plus we have a great time playing these songs.

We're not held back by any pretense of coolness, or confined by silly ambition either... this band is ignorant of trends, and we simply don't care. The whole driving force behind this effort is just to have fun, share our music and our color, and party. POUNCE is to be turned up and rocked.

Music video to accompany album release
In January, we shot a video in Athens for one of the tracks off POUNCE- the song "Slavery". We chose that song because of it's sing-along feel and because of the freaky subject matter that lends itself to some great visuals. It's directed by Louisville, KY native Brennan Clarke, and was shot at New Earth Music Hall among other nearby locations. The video is not about race or color- it's about relationships. It asks the question "How do you own someone, how often, and when is is appropriate?" Of course, being the creative folks we are, we delved into some very funny taboo subject matter. Hope y'all dig it... click the videos link to the left and watch!

Music used in another video
"Slavery" director Brennan, along with partner Kyle Crews and and their company Team HI-HO, took first place in the 2010 Louisville 48-Hour Film Competition with their short "Huckleberry Johnson". Their film was accomplished in exactly 2 days from start to finish and is scored with songs from Kite to the Moon's new album and some tracks from Timi's previous band Fuzzy Sprouts. Cheer them on at

Tour Announced
Exciting news- Kite to the Moon has been asked to accompany Perpetual Groove as support on their fall tour. The band will be included on September and October dates in Tennessee, Mississippi and North Carolina. See above for info and specific dates!

Wild Rumpus Parade and After-Party
Saturday October 30, 2010 marks the second run of the wildly popular Wild Rumpus Parade. In 2009, over 300 costumed revelers showed up in the chilly drizzle to march the sidewalks of Athens in this first-ever Athens Halloween Parade. This year, we are planning for a bigger and better event, complete with permits and access to the streets themselves! The event is open to public participation... don't be a spectator- get in the parade! As with last year's event, there will be a drum line to lead the procession, and in the spirit of creativity the parade is open to all kinds of creativity. Check www.wildrumpus.org for details and contact information.

The parade route reaches it's gleeful destination at the Wild Rumpus After-Party at New Earth Music Hall, in concert with the Next to Last Fest. Musical lineup TBA.

www.wildrupus.org will have more information as this event shapes up! Can't wait to see you all in your full splendor... Halloween AthensYeeeeeeeeHA!

Timi Conley: Nerd Sexy

OK OK OK

Timi's solo album continues it's distribution blitz with an option to buy from cdbaby.com. Click the link to the left to preview tracks and take it home. Recently Timi has been likened to an iPod on shuffle, and a musical buffet!....

"Throughout the fifteen tracks on Nerd Sexy, Conley picks his way through acoustic blues, electro pop, hip-hop beats and new wave bleeps like he’s strolling down a buffet line." Read the rest of the latest review HERE.

We also spent a week in January filming our next music video for the song "Slavery", which of course is on POUNCE! 10/24/09---HOLY CRAP IT'S HERE

Last we spoke, everything was on the verge of happening. We are clearly over the "verge" now and our spaceship's rocket boosters are in full-thrust.

For one, my solo album NERD SEXY (www.rowyourboatrecords.com/timi-index.htm) is in full-swing. YOU NEED NERD SEXY.

Nextly, the Kite to the Moon album is finished mixing and off to Rodney Mills Masterhouse for mastering, after which we will finish the artwork for the cover and send it off to be replicated for you! 13 of your favorite Kite to the Moon songs about pancakes, tigers, geeks, girls, glamour and glory. Speaking of Halloween, I am spearheading Athens FIRST EVER Halloween Parade- The "Wild Rumpus". DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT. Check www.wildrumpus.org for details. NO joke. All are invited to participate in the making of history. Dress in your favorite costume and take part. That is all I'm saying about it.

7/30/09---GETTING READY FOR FALL ACTIVITY

Hey you! Thanks for stopping by the site. We've had a flurry of great shows this summer, culminating with a PACKED OUT, SWEATY, ROCKIN' show at Athfest 09 at Farm 255. Electa Villain and Birds&Wire shared the night with us and it was totally awesome!!!!!! Anyhoo, it's back to business here at the home office, with a bunch in store for you coming up. Matt Yelton (world-traveling sound engineer extraordinaire) has assisted us in mixing our album and now it's got that "expensive" sound we were wanting, so a coupe more tweaks and it will be ready for mastering and releasing to the public. Look for us on the cover of Spin and Rolling Stone soon thereafter.

In other cool news, Jay continues to strike gold with teammate Lisa Hunt in their endeavor "Outside In" (a nod to Inside Out- the famous movie about Athens music in the 80s) where they record Athens-based bands at Full Moon Studio and follow up with interviews. The entire program is then aired on our fave radio station Hot 100.7FM. Very super cool. Additionally, Andrew and I have been very busy with Abbey Road Live this summer... topping it all of with a mammoth 2 week tour of the Pacific Northwest.... so.... very occupied. Parallel to the work we have been doing on the K2M album has also been the completion of my solo album! It's called NERD SEXY. Plans are being made now for the pre-sale of the album, which is how I decided to fund it, in agreement with a new Athens record label called Row Your Boat Records.

So, it looks like a busy fall is in store... 2 albums, and release parties- oh and did I mention we'll be putting out a Kite to the Moon DVD also? Our music videos, comedy (?) shorts, live footage and more... It'll be the kind of thing you want to have playing on your tv while entertaining guests you want to impress, or while doing yoga, or vacuuming in high heels. You will be able to use it as an instructional video on how to rock hard, or give it as a gift to anyone you know who needs The Rock.

It's all coming up, please keep in touch!

8/21/08---LOTS

Wow it's been way too long, guys. So, we did the LA trip and it was A.W.E.S.O.M.E. (All We Ever Sought Of Massive Entertainment?) The gigs went great, our fave was definitely the house party we played in the hills overlooking the valley. The house was *rumoured* to be the one from the cover of Billy Joel's "Glass Houses" album. That turned out to be b.s. !-BUT-! ~no Joke~ Steve Perry, (ex)singer of Journey was the next door neighbor to this place. His phone # was on a dang post-it note on the fridge. That gives you an idea of the opulence anyway... thick white shag rug, 100% mirrored bathroom, wall of window glass looking out on the lights of the "Valley", Frikken Seger "Hollywood Nights" out the kazoo. Anyhoo, we donned our super-hero spandex and delivered a ferocious set which rattled the family pictures of grandma and grandpa off the grand piano. The Hollywood crowd ate it up... it's clear they have not seen anything like us. I get the feeling that things out there are pretty conservative musically. They took it like they had just bitten into a habañero hidden in the middle of their mayonnaise sandwich.

Andrew did killer in Vegas too. Hundreds at Roulette. The dealer was about to make him buy breakfast for all the other players at the table... (that was what I heard anyway. I went to sleep about 7:30 am while Andrew and Jay kept rollin')

Later on in the trip, we did some recording at Muddy's Dirty Horse studio. We tracked "Start of the Show" and "Sparkle and Prance" for him to F around with. Word from Muddy has it that he is envisioning us on TV. We like it. More on this story to come...

SO!

August is here. Lately, we arranged to have our forthcoming cd mixed by Matt Yelton, of Pixies soundman fame. (He's the one that mixed TIGERZ for the video) Matt travels worldwide doing live mixing of renowned orchestras performing video game music. Killer! Matt scheduled us into Andy Baker's studio for early september... so LOOK FOR A FULL-LENGTH ALBUM RELEASE BY OCTOBER OR EARLY NOVEMBER!!! Rokk!

ALSOOOOO, we have tons of video footage including our 2 music videos, so we're planning on putting it all 2gether on a DVD and making THAT available for ya too. There will be live footage, the music vids, our skitty-type stuff like "Dr. Buttfunjoy's 3 Suggestions" and "Easter Bunny on the Skids" + more.

Aaaagh! Gotta take a break and look at ebay. Love ya! Stay in touch, k?

3/27/08---It's Rollin'!

Our Main Man, Muddy in Los Angeles has scored with some huge bookings... First is the CAT CLUB on the sunset strip, playing one of their legendary Thursday Night gigs... Read what the Cat Club says:

" EVERY THURSDAY AND SATURDAY>>>>>STARFUCKERS......Featuring Eric Dover (ALICE COOPER / SLASH'S SNAKEPIT) with Dizzy Reed of GUNS N ROSES also Slim Jim Phantom of the STRAY CATS and Stephan Adika from DEE DEE RAMONE'S BAND. GUEST ROCKSTARS CHANGE WEEKLY! SO COME BACK EVERY THURS. FOR NEW FUN! DOORS AT 730PM MUSIC BEGINS AT 8PM WITH THE STARFUCKERS TAKING THE STAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT"

F'n awesome! We play at 11:00. In the works- gigs for Saturday in LA with Muddy's band, Up The Dose and a possible assault on Las Vegas for Sunday. Rage!! The other plan of course is to meet up with the incomparably fun Jonathan Spencer, long-time friend and scheme-o-tron. His schedule these days is dizzying but we have managed to talk and agree that "It's ON". Check out Jonathan at www.fatactor.com... check out Muddy at myspace.com/upthedose.

3/6/08---Good God! We have a lot to do!

The rough cut for our Tigerz video is almost done, soon to pass off to Safi Kheshgi (Tungsten Media) for the big special effects tweeze. It was shot by Safi and Brennan Clarke (thevisualexperts.com) on Panasonic HD, hell yayuh!

The fire for our latest recording session was fueled by some local boys in blue who pulled us over during a production break on a trip to Racetrac. Pulled over for a harmless u-turn on a deserted street!!!! Can you believe that crap! Well, we slammed guitars and nailed the drums even harder, making for a great recording- Thank You Watkinsville P.D.!!!

Plans for our April trip to Los Angeles are underway. We might get on a tv show- keep your fingers crossed for us!!!!!! At the very least we're going to go out there and rock like only Dirty Southern Dirtmasters know how. The whole thing rolls thanks to our bro, Jonathan Spencer of Dawn Soir (fatactor.com) F yea!
